Tamiya are certainly one of the best known and respected names in the plastic model world, and in the case of ship modelling, are more
or less single-handedly responsible for introducing 1/350 scale, with their range of battleships first released in the late 1970s. Though maybe
no longer at the "cutting edge" of warship modelling, Tamiya have recently produced a number of new 1/350 kits including the IJN submarine I-400 and
heavy cruiser Mogami.
Though best known for their 1/350 and 1/700 kits, Tamiya also produce a few kits of small naval craft in 1/72 and 1/35 scale. In their earlier days, they made a number
of kits of IJN warships in 1/300 and 1/400 scale, which are all extremely scarce outside Japan, though a couple of these kits were reissued in 2008.
