Hasegawa

Hasegawa are one of the best regarded names in the aircraft modelling world, but until relatively recently (they're now one of the companies at the forefront of the 1/350 scale revival) their ships were limited to a selection of fairly old 1/700 waterline kits. However, back in the 1970s (and possibly earlier) they were one of the pioneers of larger (constant) scale, full-hull ship models, with their range of capital ships in the rather odd scale of 1/450. In addition to the "usual suspects" of Bismarck, Yamato and USS Missouri (along with their sister ships) this range included a couple of IJN aircraft carriers (Akagi and Shinano and the Royal Navy's last battleship HMS Vanguard. All were designed for motorisation. Whilst the Akagi kit (probably the last in the series) is very good, the others are not up to much, with crude detail and numerous inaccuracies.
